Let’s Connect This Summer: Resources for Students
May 13, 2022
by Benjamin Warren
Are you looking for ways to stay connected with your fellow students during the summer? Hoping to do some networking while waiting for meet-the-firm events and campus recruiting to start back up in the fall? Well, the WSCPA has just what you need with WSCPA Connect.
The Connect platform gives you the ability to find and chat with WSCPA members from across the state, share information within a resource group or ask questions and receive advice from our community of almost 7,000 members. As a student, you may find two Resource Groups to be the most helpful.
COFFEE AND CONVERSATIONS
As a student, you are able to connect and set up informational interviews with professionals in various industries and firms via the Coffee and Conversations Resource Group. These informational interviews are an opportunity for you to ask questions, receive resume feedback, and expand your professional network. WSCPA has put together an orientation video to help you get started and you will also have access to how-to guides for the group, best practices, sample email templates, and even interview questions, all while receiving ongoing support from WSCPA staff as needed when reaching out to professionals and conducting informational interviews.
CPA EXAM ACCELERATOR
If you are a CPA Candidate member or are within six months of applying to sit for the CPA Exam, the CPA Exam Accelerator Resource Group is for you. In this group, you can find guidance with questions, policies, and rules specific to Washington State. This is a peer support group of students in the state also navigating the exam who will cheer you on. You can attend regularly scheduled webinars on timely topics to stay motivated to reach the finish line. Members of the group can also get their very own pair of lucky CPA exam socks!
THERE’S MORE!
With more than 30 resource groups and committees, there’s something for everyone on WSCPA’s Connect platform. You can join groups organized around your interests such as taxation, not-for-profit, and governmental accounting. You can also share resources or join discussions on topics such as DEI initiatives in the accounting profession, financial planning, and business challenges around COVID-19. You can even help organize a conference by joining a conference planning committee. This summer, take time to connect with other accounting students, network with CPA professionals, and explore your interests with WSCPA Connect!
